Investigation and asbestos management works were completed at Sheffield Station Operations Quarters following survey findings of asbestos insulating board within the concrete floor slab, visible at small pipe penetrations. A licensed enclosure was erected to undertake controlled inspection and determine whether safe removal was practicable. Findings confirmed the material was better retained in situ, avoiding unnecessary disturbance and maintaining the lowest risk outcome.
Additional works included non-licensed asbestos removal and encapsulation of remaining AIB within the relay area to strengthen ongoing management. All actions were supervised and monitored, leaving the facility compliant and suitable for continued operational use throughout works.
